The Owens & Minor Internship Program

Owens & Minor recognizes that developing talent for the future is essential to maintaining our competitive advantage. Our internship program provides opportunities for students from top universities to achieve their professional goals through hands-on projects, mentoring, networking, and exposure to our world-class supply chain organization. 

The internship program is designed to be a two-summer opportunity for motivate college students (rising juniors and seniors) who are currently enrolled in a supply chain management, medical sales, and other business programs.  We select interns from across the nation who display leadership skills, high academic achievement, and the desire to learn.

Over twelve weeks, O&M interns gain hands on experience working with their managers, mentors, and cross-functional teams.  Our managers manage and support the interns’ day-to-day work and projects, share business expertise, and provide ongoing feedback to the interns.  Our mentors are select leaders that act as advisors and provide a wealth of knowledge in the fields of supply chain management and other business disciplines such as sales, accounting, finance, law, communications, business planning, and human resources. 

In addition to meaningful work assignments that the Home Office, distribution centers, and select customer locations, our interns can utilize Owens & Minor University (OMU) where they can take professional or technical courses online or in a classroom setting. 

At the end of the summer or after graduation, rising seniors may be considered for co-op positions, and then full-time employment with Owens & Minor.

The Role of the Intern

Interns are provided with real world experience and project assignments that will add value to the company and contribute to their own professional and personal development. Each intern will complete a project that he/she will present at the culmination of the intern program.  Interns will have to effectively demonstrate to management and the leadership team what they have learned and how this translates to their current courses of study.

Interns are expected to actively pursue learning and development through interactions with their managers, mentors, and OMU.   Interns will develop their skills in time management, work discipline, critical thinking and communication skills.  In addition to growing their business acumen and professional competencies they will become more confident in their abilities, ultimately making them good candidates for future full-time positions. 

Interns are also expected to:

  • Take initiative to complete assigned work accurately and on time
  • Commit to working toward the goals and expectations established by their manager
  • Be receptive to ongoing feedback, and react in a timely manner to suggestions
  • Exhibit a commitment to self-development.
