A Fierce Commitment to Growth & Innovation
- 1882: Former rivals Otho O. Owens and George Gilmer Minor II partner on a new pharmaceutical wholesale and retail company in downtown Richmond, VA.
- 1954: Owens & Minor purchases Bodeker Drug Company, a local drug wholesaler. In less than forty years, the company expands from a regional wholesaler with revenue of $5M into a nationwide business with revenue over $1B.
- 1966: The purchase of A&J Hospital Supply in Richmond, Virginia, signals the beginning of a longstanding commitment to medical and surgical distribution services.
- 1981: G. Gilmer “Gil” Minor, III, great-grandson of founder George Gilmer Minor II, expands the company’s presence in medical distribution.
- 1994: Owens & Minor acquires Stuart Medical, nearly doubling in size.
- 2018: Owens & Minor acquires Halyard Health’s surgical and infection prevention business, significantly growing its acute and non-acute product portfolio and manufacturing capabilities.
- 2020: Owens & Minor selected by Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to produce personal protective equipment (PPE) as part of the U.S. COVID-19 pandemic response.
- 2026: Owens & Minor’s Products & Healthcare Services (P&HS) segment, comprised of medical distribution as well as product, service and technology solutions for acute and non-acute care settings, is acquired by Platinum Equity
